The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its intention to field candidates in all 60 assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh during the upcoming general elections next year.
The party aims to bring its governance model to the northeastern state, with promises of free water, electricity, quality healthcare, and world-class education if elected to power in 2024.
AAP state unit general secretary, Toko Nikam, highlighted the party's commitment to repeal the controversial Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) of 2014 and the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978. These acts have faced criticism and led to protests in the state, calling for their repeal.
The AAP also expressed its plans to resolve the issues surrounding the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) within six months, including the abolishment of the Arunachal Pradesh State Service Selection Board to combat corruption.
Additionally, the party intends to establish a fully functioning Lokayukta, improve medical facilities at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), and regularize casual laborers and Auxiliary Labour Corps (ALCs) serving in various departments.
In an effort to address unemployment, the AAP proposes creating the 3rd and 4th Arunachal Pradesh Armed Police Battalions, aiming to generate employment opportunities for the youth in the state.
When questioned about the financial implications of their promises, Nikam stated that the party would develop policies to efficiently utilize funds provided by the central government and the state's tax revenue.
